All amounts divided by 10 to match the euro

With 81% of you voting in favour, we are now completing the switch to euro. Every amount in the game is divided by 10, so the numbers finally match the euro scale.

When we moved from kroner to euro (€), we kept the same numbers, which made prices look disproportionately high. We are now fixing that: money and prices are divided by 10 at the same time. Because everything scales equally, you can still afford exactly what you could before, and your position on the leaderboards is unchanged. Only the numbers get smaller.

In practice, a balance of €5,000 now shows as €500, and an item priced at €1,000 now costs €100. Your purchasing power stays the same, but the numbers become cleaner and more realistic.

We know the new, lower numbers may feel a little unfamiliar at first for those of you who have played for a while. At the same time, the old numbers were hard to relate to for new players from other countries, who are used to euro and real-world values. With the new scale, the amounts sit much closer to real euro prices.

Changes to Kill EXP

Kill EXP is no longer calculated as a percentage of the rank thresholds. Every kill now awards a fixed amount based on the victim's rank, from 500 EXP for a Criminal up to 100,000 EXP at the highest ranks.

The reward increases steadily all the way up the ladder, so a higher-ranked target is always worth more. Overall, kills give less EXP than before and are meant to be a strategic choice rather than the fastest route to a new rank.

Kill The Bot, on the other hand, can award boosted EXP. The value of the bot is set per day, and you can see the amount in the list of scheduled rounds on the Kill The Bot page before a round begins.

Bug - Getting killed costs rank again

Since May 5, for just over three months, it has been possible to get killed without losing any rank or EXP. That was never how it was meant to work, and it has now been fixed.

From now on, being killed once again costs you rank and EXP, exactly as the rules describe. If you get taken out, you drop one rank. Players at the very highest ranks instead lose a fixed amount of EXP rather than a full rank.

The fix applies only to kills from now on. Your current rank stays untouched, so no one drops rank retroactively because of the three months the issue lasted.

We would like to inform you that Toro has, at its own request and for personal reasons, chosen to step down as Senior Moderator.

After many years of hard work in management, Toro has chosen to reduce his responsibilities and will therefore continue to serve as Chat and Forum Moderator indefinitely.

Over the years, Toro has been an important part of GambinoMafia. With his dedication, loyalty and contribution to both the development and day-to-day running of the game, he has been a valuable supporter of the management and an important resource for the community.

A fairer season score

Starting with the season that begins on 1 August, the Season score is calculated in a new way. It measures how well you actually perform in each category, not just where you place.

Until now the points came from placement alone. Leading a category by the narrowest of margins earned you exactly as much as leading it by a mile, and the total grew with the number of players. The new score measures you against a championship benchmark: what a typical season winner has achieved in rank, money and kills over the last twelve seasons. The closer you get, the higher your score, and the three categories are weighted together into a single total.

100 points equals a typical winning season, and it has to be earned across the whole month. The score starts low and grows with actual play. Outperform a typical winner and you go above 100, with 150 as the hard ceiling, so a genuinely strong season stands out as exactly that.

Old seasons are untouched and appear exactly as before. On the Season page, the season where the new system takes effect is marked with a star, so it is always clear which numbers can be compared.

Referral campaign: 50 points for you and your recruit

Alongside the worldwide launch of Gambinomafia, we are now running a referral campaign. It applies to all players, whether you recruit Norwegian or international friends.

While the campaign is running, you and the new player each get 50 points for every referral that is completed, on top of the regular rewards. The campaign is planned to run through the end of August, but we reserve the right to adjust it along the way.

The regular rewards are unchanged: you get 5 billion € and 10 days of gold membership for every player you recruit, and the new player gets 1 billion €. Referrals now also complete earlier than before: a referral counts as completed when the new player fills the Troublemaker rank bar (100%).

Gambinomafia opens its doors to the world

Gambinomafia is no longer just for Norwegian players. We have launched a series of changes that make the game just as natural to play in English as in Norwegian: your own language setting, euro as the currency, automatic translation, your own timezone and a country flag on your profile.

- Switch language under Settings: choose English or Norwegian, the entire game is translated
- Translate button in chat, the forum, private messages and on profiles
- All amounts are now shown in euro (€) instead of Norwegian kroner. The numbers are exactly the same, no balances have changed
- Crypto now follows real euro exchange rates, without affecting the value of your holdings
- Timezone selector under Settings, so dates and times are shown in your local time
- A country flag on your profile, which you can easily turn off in Settings
- A new address, gambinomafia.com, in addition to gambinomafia.no

gambinomafia.com and gambinomafia.no work side by side. It is the same game and the same account no matter which address you log in from. The only difference is what new visitors see first: .no starts in Norwegian, while .com starts in English. Your own choices in Settings apply regardless of the address.

We are also considering a part 2 of the currency change: quite simply, we divide all money by 10 and all prices by 10. Since both money and prices are divided by 10, you can still afford exactly the same, only the numbers get smaller. The proposal is postponed for now and not decided, so feel free to share your opinion.
